Sustainable in Practice
We value the potential that strong transit infrastructure plays in the health and future of our planet. Urban interconnectedness and accessibility are crucial for functioning and equitable cities. In response, we build transit facilities that accommodate a modern and growing population and reduce dependence on single passenger automobile transit. Our work emphasizes durable facilities with optimized life cycles that will serve their communities and account for future growth.
Existing Facilities
Our solutions for sustainability are incorporated into every project. Projects that include upgrades or modernizations to existing facilities, elements to integrate natural daylighting, LED fixtures, improved circulation and accessibility, and new paint that supports healthy air quality for users. These features are integrated into projects like the El Cerrito Del Norte and 19th Street Station upgrades.
New Facilities
New facility projects embrace sustainability practices by incorporating Envision into the design. These criteria are determined by identifying the use of daylighting, heat gain, and fresh air circulation in the station building. Collaborative discussions lead to the identification and use of materials to minimize the project's carbon footprint. Landscape design features reduce urban heat island effects; and bio-retention areas for rainwater collection to be rerouted back into the earth.
