19th Street BART Station

The 19th Street BART Station serving Oakland’s Uptown neighborhood is an underground, three-level rail transit station opened in 1972. The neighborhood surrounding 19th Street Oakland is one of the most rapidly growing areas in the East Bay, and BART recognized the need for modernization and increased capacity.

FMG Architects is currently completing design for this modernization. This project demonstrates our ability to effectively modernize an existing station, improve mobility, environmental sustainability, and circulation, while integrating the station with a concurrent street-level building renovation. The project features key elements such as new 5-foot glass guardrails and fare barriers which improve accessibility and reduce fare evasion, as well as new elevators and relocated bike racks which expand rider capacity yet remain within the existing facility's structural restraints.
